Script structure

  • First scene: Present the setting where the story takes place, the characters, their relationship, and how they are involved in a social issue.

  • Second scene: Show how this social issue creates small problems and how these problems increase to the point that the characters have to face them.

  • Third scene: Present the moment when the characters face the problems caused by social issues. Show the difficulties and impacts these problems have caused.

  • Scene Four: Show the resolution to the combat the characters are involved in and emphasize how much it impacts their lives.

To write this script, you will need to research a social issue. This research will be easy since this type of subject is much discussed and studied in our society. The social issues that you will find easier to research will be: Racism, xenophobia, sexism, homophobia, social inequality, and religious intolerance.

Ana Lopes unpacking her clothes in her suitcase. She and her family have just moved from their hometown in northwest Costa Rica to South Carolina, where her parents will start working in a shoe factory.

Ana is with her parents in a small house with only one bedroom and one bathroom.

Ana's Mom: I hope you're excited about your new school.

Ana: I am (Ana says without enthusiasm).

Ana's mother: Ah but why all this sadness? (walks to Ana and hugs her) You'll be able to go to school dances like in the movies we used to watch. We don't have those balls in costa Rica.

Ana: Yes, but in Costa Rica, we are not foreigners, we speak the local language and I have friends.
