We had no strength left for feelings, to search for easier work, to walk, to ask, to beg." but then gets the urge for freedom. Because the protagonist is in the gulag and his friend has found a map to escape and chooses to go with his friend, this is stated “I’m willing,” I said, opening my eyes. “Only I’ve got to feed myself up first.”. the outcome from the conflict is them trying to escape due to the poor conditions.
