More about Vincent van Gogh:
The theme of a special show at The Museum of Modern Art from February 1 to May 15, 2001, was Vincent van Gogh's pictures of Joseph Roulin, the postman who helped and supported him during some of his worst days.
Five of the six paintings that the artist created of his buddy and defender in 1888 and 1889 are included in Van Gogh's Postman. Roulin's own portrait by MoMA, which the Museum purchased in 1989, was displayed with artworks lent by the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Kunst museum Winterthur, Switzerland, and the Kröller-Müller Museum, Otterlo, the Netherlands.
