Scribes were the guardians and developers of ancient Egyptian culture, as well as the backbone of academic study and the orderly operation of the state apparatus.
The scribes not only copied previous manuscripts in order to preserve them for future generations, but they also revised existing works and authored new ones.
What made them so powerful and useful?
Scribes were particularly essential in Sumerian civilization since they were required to transcribe anything that was written prior to the invention of the printing press (which made duplication of such documents are easier).
Because of this position, that is, whatever they said the truth was, was what it is, their position became a very powerful and important one.
