The New York Draft Riots occurred in July 13–16, 1863 as people panicked over the news that General Lee's army was approaching New York.

The New York Draft Riots was a very unpleasant event because it was violent and led to the deaths of over 100 people as people in several neighborhoods resisted the Union Army by force. In the end, the riots were suppressed and more than 2,000 people were injured.
