we know that,  QS ₊ RS = QR

⇒ RS = QR ₋ QS

⇒ 5x ₋ 9 = 4x ₋ 4

unknown items move to the left of the equal sign and known items move to the right of the equal sign.

5x ₋ 4x = 9 ₋ 4

x = 5

therefore, RS = 5x ₋ 9

= 5(5) ₋ 9

= 25 ₋ 9

= 16

hence we get the length of RS as 16.
