The game "Mountain Adventure” is a huge hit. Kids can choose to play as different avatars, such as Liam, a red-haired teenage boy; Calvin, a Black teenage boy; and Quinn, a Chinese American teenage boy. A group of girls, including Clara, writes an email to the game’s developers, reminding them that girls like to play the game too. The developers create the avatar of Hannah, a blond teenage girl. Clara is disappointed that they did not show intersectionality in their decision. What does that mean? The video game company should have written back to the girls to get their input about adding new avatars. The game developers listened to the complaint in the email and made a change to the game that was unnecessary. The male characters are of several races, but there is no representation of female characters of different racial identities. The game will not look as interesting when there are different male avatars on the screen but a bunch of female avatars that look like one another.
