Local Paper Assignment
This assignment will put to use all the skills you acquired through your readings in Units 1 and 2.
1. Read an article that interests you from your local daily newspaper's online edition
2. Read the lead again. Determine if it is a summary, quotation, direct-address, face or scene, contrast or narrative lead. 3. Once you have determined the lead type, re-write it using another lead type. For example: If the lead is a summary, re-write it as a narrative.
4. List the primary sources the writer used.
5. List the secondary sources the writer used.
6. List three other primary sources the writer could have used.
7. List three other secondary sources the writer could have used.
8. Answer the following questions:
a. What is the writer's story angle?
b. Does it appear that the writer followed the guidelines necessary in good journalism? Explain.
