Find a topic in nutrition that interests you and show me that you know where a "scientist" should be getting their information. Compare and Contrast this with information that is easily found in the media.
for example: say you were interested in the effect of Vitamin D in your diet and the risk of you developing Corona Virus symptoms after exposure.
you could easily find Social Media articles related to this BUT it is important that you know where to find evidence based peer reviewed science articles. This will require that you learn how to research topics, interpret the findings and properly cite them as an academic
for this assignment find 2 articles (one non-scientific and one peer reviewed) and write a short summary (1 or 2 pages) of the similarities and differences ( compare and contrast) the information the articles provide.
some things to consider: (you must include discussion of these things for full marks)
the credentials of the author(s)
the organization that is publishing the article
the references available
was any money involved (or industry involvement)
what were the limitations and the conclusions?
is the article relevant to many types of people?
does the information sound reasonable (use your critical thinking skills)
ensure that you provide the properly formatted (APA) citations for each paper ( if you are unfamiliar with this format take a look at the references that are provided in your textbook or contact the library reference desk for help.
NOTE: It is very important that you learn to use the proper format for referencing. I will not mark any assignments that have not been referenced correctly - they will be returned to you for re-write.
- example of how intext citations should look : have the authors name(s) and the date of publication (Jones et al., 2010)
- full references should look like this: Sage, R. J., Rao, D. S., Burke, R. R., & Lim, H. W. (2011). Preventing Vitamin D Toxicity in Patients with Sarcoidosis. Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 64(4), E795-E796. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jaad.2010.05.022
