If the words of the Declaration of Independence had been taken literally for women, native Americans, and enslaved Blacks, America would have looked biased and prejudiced.
An excerpt of this declaration states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” In this quote, it is emphasized that men are created equally; women, natives, and Blacks were excluded from this on the basis of being considered and treated as if they were subhuman. The definition of women, natives and Blacks (really any person with a dark skin complexion) at the time before America’s creation was that they were property, they represented themselves as less than human, and they were savages. If every man has “unalienable rights,” as stated in the Declaration, it would be reasonable to assume the “man” is being referred to as any white (or early English) descendant, still excluding women.
If America had taken its Declaration’s words seriously, it would not look like the “United States” of America. It would look like the “Misogynistic” or “Biased” states.
