I sat on my bed looking through the family photo albums for pictures of Lola. It was hard to believe how much time had passed by since Lola had come into our family, and today she was celebrating her eleventh year with us. I remembered mom and dad gifting Lola to Chloe and me for scoring well in our exams. Chloe was so ecstatic that she squealed in sheer happiness. I, on the other hand, remembered holding the little pup in my arms and looking at her innocent face, hardly believing that this little bundle of joy was my new pet and companion.

Eleven years had passed by in a flash since then, and those eleven years were filled with fond moments and memories, thanks to Lola. I remembered the time mom would shout out my name "Jamie" furiously whenever I did something wrong, and Lola would come bounding to me and curl over my lap as if to protect me from mom's anger. She had always been a guardian and a best friend to me. My parents and Chloe had bought Lola a bunch of new toys to celebrate, we couldn't wait to gift them to her and see the joyous look on her face.
