Within 4 hours of the event, many people became violently ill and developed large purple spots on their hands and faces. The diagnosis of Lavender disease was made, and the prevalence for the 2015 outbreak was 45/1,000 villagers. Lavender disease attacked again in 2016 with the appearance of 213 cases following the grape harvest festival. A vaccine for Lavender disease was in development but was not yet available.
