Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the heir of the Kingdom of Austria-Hungary. He wanted a greater influence of the Austrian-Hungary Kingdom in the Balkan region as well as the annexation of the Balkan region including Bosnia and Herzegovina under the rule of the Kingdom of Austria-Hungary. As a result of his policy, Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated Sarajevo, Bosnia on June 28th 1914 by Serbian nationalist, believing that he was a threat to the Serbian Independence movement, and his assassination would eventually lead to the beginning of World War I.
