math question PLEASE HELP

[tex]\sqrt{x-2} ^2[/tex]
is it going to cancel out the square root and equal x-2, or by order of operations do I have to do something like [tex]\sqrt{x-2}^2 *i^2[/tex]
if you want to get more in depth, this originated from me having to find the domain of f(g(x))
[tex]f\left(x\right)=x^{2}+4[/tex]
[tex]g\left(x\right)=\sqrt{x-2}[/tex]
