Directions: Put yourself in the shoes (perspective) of the colonists following the constant taxation and loss of life in the Boston Massacre and Battles of Lexington/Concord. In a ‘last ditch effort’ and attempt at peace, you, and majority of the Continental Congress draft this Olive Branch Petition to request King George ‘intervene’ and cease (stop the) violence. Draft your request in the scroll below in 1-2 paragraphs. Feel free to make this your own, but consider the constant taxations and bloodshed falling at the hands of the colonists in the moment.

What was Boston Massacre?

The Boston Massacre was a street brawl that took place on March 5, 1770, between a "patriot" crowd and a squad of British soldiers who were both throwing snowballs, stones, and clubs. Following the deaths of several colonists, speech writers launched an effort to incite public outrage.

Further On April 19, 1775, the Battles of Lexington and Concord, which featured the memorable "shot heard 'round the world," officially started the American War of Independence (1775-83).

It succeeded in persuading a large number of Americans to join the military and fight for independence, which was politically disastrous for the British.

Thus peace is the ultimate solution of war and violence & hence request to central authority would be needed.
