The tallest of all clouds, cirrus clouds are made completely of ice crystals. Even if the ice crystals in cirrus clouds vaporize well above the earth's surface, they are still precipitating clouds.
Unless they are the more vertical cumulus congestus variety, cumulus clouds are low-level clouds that are typically less than 2,000 m (6,600 ft) in altitude. Cumulus clouds can appear singly, in groups, or in lines.
