Question: Which of the materials, sugars, yeast, elodea, and sand, are non living, or abiotic? Which ones are biotic or abiotic? How would I find the non living items and and living items?

Hypothesis:My hypothesis is that the elodea would be biotic, or living, and that the sugar, yeast, and the sand would be non living. My guess is that the sugar, yeast and sand would be abiotic.

Conclusion:My hypothesis is was that the elodea would be biotic, or living, and that the sugar, yeast, and the sand would be non living. My guess is that the sugar, yeast and sand would be abiotic. I was right about the elodea, sand, and sugar. But I was surprised about the yeast, because it turned out to be biotic. When I first started, I thought that the yeast would abiotic, but it turned out to have cells and all the other 5 characteristics. The elodea was a plant and it had cells just as I expected. The sand and the sugar were abiotic because they have none of 6 characteristics needed to be biotic. All in all, I was right AND wrong. I was wrong about the yeast, but I was right for the other 3 substances.
