can two different size rectangles have the same area? could someone please explain

I guess that depends on what you call "size".

If 'size' means 'area' to you, then no. 'Same size' means 'same area'.

But if 'size' means length or width, then of course they can.  The area
of a rectangle is (length) times (width).  It doesn't matter what the length
is, or what the width is, but if the product of those two numbers is the same,
then the rectangles have the same area.

Here are a few examples:

Length ... Width ..... Area

64-ft            1-ft          64 square feet
48-ft           16-in        64 square feet
40-ft          1.6-ft         64 square feet
32-ft            2-ft          64 square feet
25-ft       2.56-ft          64 square feet
24-ft          32-in         64 square feet
20-ft         3.2-ft          64 square feet
16-ft            4-ft          64 square feet
12-ft          64-in         64 square feet
10-ft      76.8-in          64 square feet
8-ft              8-ft          64 square feet


Yes they can. The equation for squares is A=bh. Therefore, if you can find two different sets of numbers that multiply to the same number, than they have congruent area. For example, 4x5=20 and 10x2=20 also
