Mrs. Cashmore bought a large melon. She cut a piece that weighs 1 1/8 pounds and gave it to her neighbor. The remaining piece of melon weighed 6/8 pound. How much the the whole melon weigh?

You have to add the two numbers together. The 1 whole stays the same so we can leave that. 1/8+6/8=7/8. Therefore the answer is 1 7/8
