In the Civil War, Texas (young Texas) served as a support state, and there was barely any skrimishes in the state. Technically, by the governor's word (The governor at the time was Sam Houston), Texas was originally pro-Union, but the citizens wantes war as a way to assert the state's rights. Also, Texas did not fight for wealthy plantation owners in other states; Texas didn't have any cotton plantations compared to the other Southern states, so they didn't suffer as bad as a loss than the other states. Moreover, during the battles outside of the state, the Texan soldiers either deserted from warfare or joined the Union.
