Is the passage of dialogue written correctly or incorrectly?
   "Did you finish your homework"? asked Forrest. 

    "I have to write a summary of this story after I finish reading it". Jeff answered. 

    "I will leave you to it", said Forrest. "By the way, it's an exciting story", he added.

The reason for this is when you have quotation marks, you must put the puncuation inside the quotes.

The passage should be written like this:

"I will leave you to it,"said Forrest. "By the way, its an exciting story," he added.
Instead of.....
"Happy Birthday, Rachel"! Lily cried.

Instead of.....
Rachel replied sadly "Its been a horrible birthday".

Rachel replied sadly, "Its been a horrible birthday."
Instead of.....
"Why, Rachel? Its not supposed to be, right"? Lily said, suprised.
