The wound was sampled for microscopic examination and culture. Gram-positive bacilli were observed in a Gram stain and endospores were observed in an endospore stain of the pus. The culture only grew in anaerobic conditions. The patient was given antitoxin injections prescribed antibiotics, narcotics, and muscle relaxers, and placed on a ventilator. The patient underwent hyperbaric oxygen therapy in the clinic.
