A cafeteria manager surveyed a random sample of students at a school to determine which of 2 meal choices they prefer. The results of the survey are
-Chicken is preferred by 30 students
-Pasta is preferred by 18 students
Based on the results of the survey, how many of the 240 students at the school can b eexpected to prefer chicken?

Chicken for 30/48 = 62,5% of the students
Pasta for 18/48 = 37,5%
240x62.5/100 = 150 students should prefer chicken.

Thanks for your answer Pepe but maybe your numbers with points can complicate the situation so we can do it with a simple way. There are 30+18 = 48 students. Rate is constant so if there are 240 students rate won't change and when there are 48 students 30 of them prefer chicken when there are 240 students with a direct proportion we can say 240*30 / 48 and it equals 150.
